Q. Can I have someone besides my father walk me down the aisle?
A. Traditionally, this was a task to be done by the father of the bride. However, this is an area of the ceremony you may feel free to make your own. Historically, women were married at younger ages, and they were often still members of the parents’ household prior to marriage. Now it’s much more common for a woman to be independent prior to marriage. The symbolism of leaving your parents to join your spouse is what is shown through the act of the father walking his daughter down the aisle.
